This fall, JRP Ringier publishes Power to Act, a book on Adel Abdessemed, edited by Larys Frogier (French and German editions). Also this year, Drago publishes I Mutanti: Adel Abdessemed, catalog of a Villa Medici exhibition, with text by Eric de Chassey. At Parasol Unit in London, Silent Warriors is up through November, to be accompanied by a catalog “with insightful essays by Gilane Tawadros, Ziba Ardalan de Weck and others.”
Situation and Practice was the title of an exhibition at MIT’s List Center last year (reviews by Sebastian Smee and Nuit Banai); its catalog had contributions from Tom McDonough, Pier Luigi Tazzi, and Jane E. Farver, and an interview with Noam Chomsky (Amazon; DAP). Rio, at David Zwirner, elicited a debate on cruelty to animals (ArtObserved, Jerry Saltz). Massimiliano Gioni, “Adel Abdessemed: In the Name of the Father” was in Flash Art 265 (Mar.-Apr. 2009).
Dead or Alive was at P.S.1 in 2007-08 (catalog; review by Benjamin Genocchio). Another book from JRP Ringier, Adel Abdessemed: À l’attaque (2007), is by Frogier, Elisabeth Lebovici and Philippe-Alain Michaud. Global (Paris Musées) appeared in 2005.
