On May 22nd at pro qm in Berlin, “Aesthetics and Contemporary Art: A conversation with Armen Avanessian, Etienne Balibar, John Rajchman und Luke Skrebowski.” Description:
On the occasion of the release of two new publications, Aesthetics and Contemporary Art and French Philosophy Since 1945, editors Armen Avanessian, Luke Skrebowski, Etienne Balibar and John Rajchman will discuss contemporary aesthetic theory in relation to current political and artistic debates. At the moment, there is a revived interest in notions of aesthetics. However, this does not imply a return to an immanent account of art, but rather reflects a new relationship between philosophy and changing artistic practices, political contexts and theoretical paradigms.
As part of the presentation of both books, the editors will reflect on the relevance of philosophy for art criticism and social theory as well as the concrete political and academic contexts in which the texts in discussion were produced.
