Forbidden Love: Art in the Wake of Television Camp

Forbidden Love: Art in the Wake of Television Camp is a collaboration between the Kunstverein Medienturm (Graz) and the Kölnischer Kunstverein.

The organizers were Sandro Droschl (Graz) and Simon Denny, Kathrin Jentjens and Anja Nathan-Dorn (Cologne). Artists include Judith Barry, Joseph Beuys, Chris Burden, Paul Chan, Mel Chin and the GALA Committee, Jaime Davidovich, Simon Denny, Kalup Linzy, Christoph Schlingensief, Ryan Trecartin, Francesco Vezzoli, and Andy Warhol. A catalogue was announced.

A symposium was held on September 29th: “Von Warhol bis “The Wire,” Über Nähe und Distanz von Kunst und Fernsehen.” Talks included:

  • David Simon präsentiert seine neue Serie Tremé
  • David Joselit, “Art in an Age without Content: The Inevitability of Camp”
  • Matthias Michalka, “Was sucht die Kunst im Fernsehen?”
  • Jörg van der Horst with  Anja Nathan-Dorn, “Das Fernsehen geht zu Ende, Über die Fernseharbeit Christoph Schlingensiefs”
