Katy Siegel: Since ‘45: Contemporary Art and Art History’s Old Habits

On December 16th, Katy Siegel will speak at the School of Visual Arts: “Since ‘45: Contemporary Art and Art History’s Old Habits.”

Dave Hickey is quoted in the announcement:

Siegel lays bare the fragile, historical co-existence of European ideas about avant-garde and the American predisposition for designed obsolescence.

Her book, Since ’45: America and the Making of Contemporary Art, is out this fall from Reaktion, distributed by Chicago (Amazon).

She spoke with Lauren O’Neill-Butler for Artforum.com on “Americanana” at Hunter; more on that show from Andrea Kirsh at TheArtBlog.
