Mixed Signals: Artists Consider Masculinity in Sports

Mixed Signals: Artists Consider Masculinity in Sports, an exhibition organized by Christopher Bedford for ICI, recently closed in Calgary, before moving to Middlebury in February.

It was previously in Columbus, Baltimore and Bloomfield Hills. The catalog includes text by Bedford, Julia Bryan-Wilson, and Peggy Phelan.

The Wexner Center website features PDF copies of the brochure, artist interviews, and essays: Matthew Biro, “Personal Best,” and Jennifer Doyle, “Soft Subjects.” Elsewhere online: an interview with Leah Sandals and Molly Steeves, and a review by Mikhel Proulx.

Artists are Matthew Barney, Mark Bradford, Marcelino Gonçalves, Lyle Ashton Harris, Brian Jungen, Kurt Kauper, Shaun El C. Leonardo, Kori Newkirk, Catherine Opie, Paul Pfeiffer, Marco Rios, Collier Schorr, Joe Sola, Sam Taylor-Wood, and Hank Willis Thomas.
