The Absence of Work: Marcel Broodthaers, 1964-1976

This fall MIT publishes The Absence of Work: Marcel Broodthaers, 1964-1976 ($35, cloth) by Rachel Haidu.

Per the publisher, the book’s interest in historical contextualization, political implications of the work, and influence of other artists “represents a major departure from the usual approach to this movement.”

Copies of October 42: “Broodthaers” (fall 1987) are listed at the Amazon Marketplace from $63.

This season also saw Broodthaers exhibitions at Marian Goodman and Michael Werner. These are discussed by Valery Oisteanu (Brooklyn Rail) and Media Farzin (art agenda).

The Goodman gallery promises a catalog that “updates and expands upon a key chapter devoted to Section Cinéma in Marcel Broodthaers: Cinéma” (Amazon), published by the Fundació Tàpies in 1997 for an exhibition in Barcelona, Düsseldorf, Santiago de Compostela, and Berlin.
