Thomas Schütte

From July through November, “Big Buildings: Models and Views,” by Thomas Schütte, is on view in Bonn. In February, Prestel published Thomas Schütte: Hindsight (Randomhouse.de; Amazon), edited by Lynne Cooke with writing by Penelope Curtis and Christine Mehring, catalog to a retrospective at the Reina Sofia in Madrid. In summer 2009, the Haus der Kunst, Munich, mounted a show reviewed in Frieze by Quinn Latimer.

In 2007-2008, “Fake/Function,” a show of early work, was on view at the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds and the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein (Vaduz). A 2001 exhibition at the Sammlung Goetz, Munich, produced a catalog including essays by Jan Avgikos, Robert Fleck, Cay Sophie Rabinowitz, and Rainald Schumacher (artbook.com).

From 1998 to 2000, the Dia Center exhibited a three-part series of Schütte’s work: Scenewright, Gloria in Memoria, and In Medias Res. The catalog (Worldcat) included text from Cooke, Michael Govan, Getrud Sandqvist and Susan Stewart. Also n 1998, Phaidon published an entry in the “Contemporary Artists” series with contributions from Julian Heynen, James Lingwood, Angela Vettese and Seneca.
