Resources

Explore SCAH’s resources, including The Syllabus Project, Foreign Language Index, and Programs and Initiatives, designed to support research, teaching, and professional development in contemporary art history.

Our major initiatives include a standing panel at the College Art Association annual conference, Regional Groups, The Syllabus Project, Foreign Language Index (FLI), and the distribution of relevant information through the Society’s website, Google Group listserv, and social media.

The Syllabus Project is an evolving digital archive of syllabi related to the teaching of contemporary art history, accessible to SCAH members. It aims to include historical syllabi written by pathbreaking art historians and artists as well as current scholars and practitioners who are pushing the field forward in dynamic and necessary ways.

A living, functional archive, The Syllabus Project centers on the syllabus as a momentary crystallization of intellectual history constantly in motion and often the most tangible, lasting trace of the classroom experience. Documenting shifts in thinking about and in the field, this collection of teaching documents offers a means of charting and reflecting upon the rapidly evolving historiography of contemporary art.

If you are interested in contributing to The Syllabus Project, please contact any executive board member.

To address the increasing dominance of English in contemporary art history, the Foreign Language Index summarizes recent scholarship published in various languages, broadening perspectives on contemporary art and encouraging cross-cultural exploration within the field.

Our Google Group is designed for members to interact with one another, ask questions, debate pressing issues, problem-solve, share resources, and discuss Society business.

Opportunities to come together to share research, foster community, and engage in professional development opportunities tailored to contemporary art historians.

Highlights from SCAH’s past events, showcasing dynamic discussions, topical scholarship, and opportunities for connection within the contemporary art history community.

The governing structure of SCAH is designed to support these goals, ensuring that the organization remains responsive to the needs of its members and continues to facilitate meaningful engagement within the field.
